Petition to the Government of Canada
Whereas:
The price of the average home in Canada has nearly doubled in the last eight years from $454,976 to $729,000;
The cost to rent a one-bedroom apartment has doubled from $973 to $1861;
The average mortgage payment more than doubled from $1418 to $3357 since 2015;
Canada is projected to need an additional 5.8 million new homes to solve the housing affordability crisis; and
The rate of new home construction has declined through 2023.
Therefore, we, the undersigned citizens of Canada, call upon the Prime Minister to:
Ensure all federal infrastructure funds given to cities supports increased home construction;
End the wasteful spending that is fueling inflation and the cost-of-living crisis; and
Confront the bureaucrats and gatekeepers that prevent new housing construction.
