Share your thoughts: Proposed amendment to the Compensation for Destroyed Animals Regulations – Maximum compensation amounts for destroyed bison

About the consultation

The purpose of this consultation is to seek feedback on the Amendments to maximum compensation amounts for bison as contained in the Schedule to the Compensation for Destroyed Animals Regulations – Pre-Canada Gazette, Part I publication consultation. Compensation for animals ordered destroyed can contribute to limiting animal disease outbreaks by promoting early reporting by owners when their animal has a reportable disease. The maximum compensation amounts for bison are being updated to stay relevant to the current market value.

The maximum compensation amounts listed for bison in the Compensation for Destroyed Animals Regulations were last updated in 2007. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) analyzed market value prices for bison from 2009 to 2019 and determined that market value had increased. Therefore, the maximum monetary compensation amounts need to be updated.

This consultation will be open for a 75-day period from July 10, 2021 to September 22, 2021.
