“October is Foster and Kinship Caregiver Month – an opportunity to extend our gratitude to the more than 4,000 kinship and foster caregivers in Alberta. These dedicated caregivers are important partners in our work to keep children safe and protected by providing safe, loving, temporary homes to children and youth until they are able to be reunited with their families.

“Our focus is to keep children connected to family, community and culture and to ensure children and youth are placed with caregivers who will meet their physical, emotional, cultural and spiritual needs.

“Children in care face many challenges, and the pandemic has made things even more difficult. Through it all, kinship and foster caregivers have stepped up to provide stability, comfort and safety for the young people who depend on them. We are proud to work alongside them as they support these incredibly resilient kids to reach their full potential.
