National Adoption Awareness Month: Minister Schulz
2021-11-04

“November is National Adoption Awareness Month in Alberta. I’m truly grateful for the many adoptive parents who have welcomed a child or children into their hearts and families.

“Every child needs strong family and community connections as well as the opportunity to grow up in a safe, nurturing home. For children and youth in care who are not able to safely return home or stay with extended family, adoption or private guardianship gives them the opportunity to create these vital connections.

“Our recent changes to the Post Adoption Registry also makes it easier to create connections and reunions between adoptees, birth parents, siblings and birth family members of adoptees.

“The impact of providing a home to a child through adoption is immeasurable. If you want to know more about adoption or private guardianship, please visit alberta.ca/adoption.aspx.”

Rebecca Schulz, Minister of Children’s Services

“As an adoptive parent, National Adoption Awareness Month is a great way to celebrate bringing families together as one. The changes our government made to improve adoption processes in Alberta were long overdue. I can’t emphasize enough how incredibly important it is to continue strengthening the adoption process for the benefit of kids and youth.”
