Modernization of the Issuance of Licences to Collect Fish for Scientific Purposes
Regulation Number(s):
Ontario Regulation 664/98
Instrument Type:
Regulation - LGIC
Bill or Act:
Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act
Summary of Proposal:
Amendments to Ontario Regulation 664/98 (Fish Licensing) under the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act will address administrative burdens and issuance delays associated with Licences to Collect Fish for Scientific Purposes. We are proposing that for certain low risk projects which meet the requirements, a licence to collect fish at a specified location and time will be issued electronically without further review and approval.

In addition to the regulatory amendments to support the modernization of the Licence to Collect for Scientific Purposes, the ministry is making an administrative amendment to the definition of the Northwestern Bait Management Zone to provide additional clarity on the intended boundary. This administrative clarification will help ensure that businesses and anglers alike clearly understand the geographic extent of the Bait Management Zone.
Analysis of Regulatory Impact:
There would be no direct, administrative, or indirect compliance costs to Ontario businesses associated with this proposal.

There is no current or proposed fee associated with obtaining a Licence to Collect Fish for Scientific Purposes.
