New chair to lead Alberta Health Services board

Minister of Health Jason Copping appointed Turnbull as AHS board chair for a three-year term effective Dec. 8.

I thank him for taking on this key leadership role at a critical time, all members of the AHS board, and all front-line health-care workers for their ongoing dedication. As a former partner with McCarthy Tétrault LLP, Turnbull has more than 35 years of experience in corporate governance. He has acted as director, officer and counsel to boards and special committees, including in the medical sector. Turnbull is currently a member of the Advisory Council at the School of Public Policy and the Dean’s Advisory Council at the Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary.

    • Promote and protect the health of Albertans working toward the prevention of disease and injury.
    • Assess the health needs of the province on an ongoing basis.
    • Determine health service priorities and allocate resources accordingly.
    • Ensure reasonable access to quality health services.
    • Promote the provision of health services in a manner that is responsive to the needs of individuals and communities and supports the integration of services and facilities.
