Thank you for the opportunity to provide the following submission in relation to the question

taken on notice at the public hearing on Monday 15th November 2021 on the Small Business Commissioner Bill 2021 (the Bill).

CCIQ proposes the Bill provide for the Commissioner to have investigatory powers, in order effectively fulfill the main objects and functions as an advocate of small business issues within and across government. We provide the following areas for consideration.

Requirement to provide information Providing powers for the Commissioner to require a government agency to provide information relating to the agency’s dealings with small businesses for the purposes of any investigation by the Commissioner.

Obligations of public entities and public service bodies Providing for a government agency to respond to a reasonable request by the Commissioner in a timely and efficient manner.

Commission's investigatory function Providing for the Commission to investigate any matter relevant to the Commission's functions and powers.
