AN ACT to amend the National Honours Act, 1998.

ENACTED by the Parliament of Antigua and Barbuda as follows:

1. Short title

This Act may be cited as the National Honours (Amendment) Act, 2015.

2. Interpretation

In this Act—

“principal Act” means the National Honours Act, 1998 No. 23 of 1998.

3. Amendment of section 12

The principal Act is amended in section 12 by repealing subsections (2) and (3).

EXPLANATORY MEMORANDUM

The Bill seeks to amend the National Honours Act, by removing the privileges that were permitted

to the Governor General, the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition, to nominate the

names of persons to be appointed with National Honours titles, without applying directly to the

National Honours Committee.
