An Act to amend the Police Act to provide for the revision of the entry requirements for person who enlist into the Royal Barbados Police Force.

ENACTED by the Parliament of Barbados as follows:

Short title

This Act may be cited as the Police (Amendment) (No. 2) Act, 2020.1.

Amendment of section 24 of Cap. 167

Section 24 of the Police Act, Cap. 167, is amended by deleting subsection (2) and substituting the following:

No person shall be enlisted who

is less than 19 years of age or more than 35 years of age, unless

he has served previously for at least 2 years with a Police Force; or

he was engaged for at least 3 years as a special constable;

does not satisfactorily pass a medical examination as to his bodily fitness to be held by the Police Medical Officer appointed for that purpose and, if the Governor-General thinks fit, by another duly qualified medical practitioner;

does not produce satisfactory proof of good character;

has not

attained passes in at least 3 subjects

at general proficiency in the Caribbean Examinations Council examination at grade 1, 2 or 3;

at ordinary level in the General Certificate of Education; or

in an examination equivalent to those referred to in the sub-paragraphs (A) and (B); or

successfully completed the alternative course of study approved by the Ministry of Education and the Regional Police Training Centre; or

is not a Commonwealth citizen.”.
