Regulation Number(s):
877/21
Instrument Type:
Regulation - Minister
Bill or Act:
Building Opportunities in the Skilled Trades Act, 2021
Summary of Proposal:
Section 47 of The Building Opportunities in the Skilled Trades Act, 2021 (BOSTA) governs what the Skilled Trades Ontario (STO) public register can include. Currently, only six items must be included, but section 47 provides the minister authority to make a regulation prescribing any additional specific information to be included.
The minister is proposing to make a regulation prescribing additional information to be included in the public register:
(i) Client ID number;
(ii) Issue date and current expiration date; and
(iii) Status of CofQ holders as active or expired.
These proposed additions would enable quality of life improvements and support use of the public register by ministry inspectors, other regulators, and the public to confidently identify whether someone is authorised to practice a compulsory trade.

Analysis of Regulatory Impact:
There are no anticipated additional costs associated with this proposal to businesses, apprentices, or skilled tradespeople.
This will enable added functionality to the Skilled Trades Ontario public register to support more effective use by ministry inspectors, other regulators, and the public to confidently identify whether someone is authorised to practice a compulsory trade.
