Petition to the Government of Canada
  Whereas:

    The Supreme Court has made a ruling that extreme intoxication may be used as a defence for charges of varying types of assault;
    The Criminal Code of Canada allows for extreme intoxication to be used as a defence for charges of varying assault types;
    Many people willingly consume intoxicating substances to the point of extreme intoxication, know the risk of impairment; and
    Allowing the use of the defence of extreme intoxication does not allow for those charged with crimes to be held accountable.

    We, the undersigned, residents of Canada, call upon the House of Commons to:
    a) Amend the Criminal Code of Canada to not allow for the use of extreme intoxication as a defence in criminal charges of varying types of assault; and
    b) Attempt to reverse the Supreme Court of Canada’s ruling relating to the use of the extreme intoxication defence.
