Cancer Wellness Awareness Day: Minister Copping
2022-06-26

“One in two Canadians will receive a diagnosis of cancer in their lifetime. From diagnosis to treatment and beyond, no one needs to face cancer alone.

“National Cancer Wellness Awareness Day promotes access to holistic programs for cancer care that go beyond medical treatments. It’s a good time to remind Albertans that outside of the excellent care they receive from their oncologist, there are many free supports and programs available to those who are living with a cancer diagnosis, and their loved ones.

Psychosocial oncology specialists offer individual and family counselling, classes and support groups. They can assist with stress,   mental health and spiritual challenges, as well as concerns about practical day-to-day supports and finances.

Rehabilitation oncology specialists, including occupational therapists, physiotherapists, physiatrists and speech language pathologists, can help maintain and restore physical and cognitive abilities, which can be lost as a result of cancer or its treatment.

“Please reach out to access wellness programs if you or someone you care about has been diagnosed with any form of cancer. You do not need a referral, just call Cancer Care Alberta or contact Alberta Health Services’ Health Link at 811.”
