Building a skilled and diverse workforce
2022-06-30

As part of Alberta at Work, organizations could receive up to $1.5 million through Workforce Strategies grants for projects that help Alberta workers develop the necessary skills to meet workforce needs and that build the capacity of industry, employers and regions to attract, develop and retain workers.

“We continue to experience incredible progress across Alberta’s economy with nation-leading job creation and declining unemployment rates. Like other Alberta at Work initiatives, these grants will continue this momentum by helping Albertans gain job-ready skills that employers need to grow.”

Kaycee Madu, Minister of Labour and Immigration

To support Alberta’s continued economic recovery and diversification, funding will prioritize projects that target emerging sectors, such as technology and fintech, agriculture and agri-tech, forestry, tourism, energy, logistics and culture.

Projects that aim to employ under-represented groups, such as people with a disability, youth and racialized individuals, will also be prioritized for funding to help everyone participate in Alberta’s recovery.

“As Alberta’s economy continues to lead Canada in growth and recovery, the priority is to ensure all Albertans can participate and are included in the job market. Alberta’s government has always been the social safety net and those benefits will always be there for the most vulnerable. But as part of Alberta’s Recovery Plan, we also want to empower persons with disabilities and help them reach their full potential during this economic boom. This is why programs like Alberta at Work are important to help Albertans with disabilities find and keep good jobs and enjoy everything their communities have to offer.”

Jason Luan, Minister of Community and Social Services

Organizations have until July 22 to submit an expression of interest for their project. Successful applicants will be contacted to submit a full project proposal.
