New pharmaceutical distribution centre: Minister Schweitzer
2022-07-19

“I am very excited to see that McKesson Canada has officially opened their new state of the art distribution centre in Edmonton. McKesson Canada’s $175-million investment in this facility created more than 1,800 construction jobs at the height of the pandemic when Albertans needed it most, and a further 150 permanent jobs now that the facility is open.

“These are not small numbers. Private sector investments like this are central to creating the jobs that Albertans rely on and helping our province build back stronger than ever.

“Not only will this new facility provide quality service to pharmacies and hospitals right here in Alberta, it will contribute to building out Alberta’s pharmaceuticals and life sciences ecosystem. It will help make Edmonton a hub for pharmaceutical drug distribution to our provincial and territorial neighbours.

“This investment also complements work we are undertaking through Alberta’s Recovery Plan to put Alberta’s pharmaceutical life sciences sector on the global map.

“With targeted investments in the Li Ka Shing Institute of Virology at the University of Alberta, Entos Pharmaceuticals, Northern RNA, and Applied Pharmaceutical Innovation, Alberta’s government is taking action to accelerate vaccine research and made-in-Alberta biomanufacturing capacity – all while creating the best business environment to grow and attract private sector investment to our province.

“Through Alberta’s Recovery Plan, our government has worked hard to create a positive climate to do business.

“With investments like this coming to our province, it’s undeniable that businesses and investors recognize Alberta is a prime location to collaborate, innovate and grow.”
