About the consultation

Since 2020, the Government of Canada has banned more than 1,500 models and variants of assault-style firearms (ASFs). The Government will launch a buyback program to ensure these ASFs are safely and permanently removed from our communities, and to provide compensation to individual owners and businesses impacted by the May 1, 2020 prohibition.

The buyback program will provide compensation to individual owners of banned ASFs. The goal of this consultation is to gather feedback on the proposed compensation amounts for individual owners of the banned ASFs. The proposed price list for individual firearm owners is based on market price.

The proposed compensation amounts for individual owners will be finalized in the coming months.
