NIAGARA (GNB) – New Brunswick para swimmer Jesse Canney won a bronze medal this evening at the Canada Summer Games in Niagara.

Canney’s bronze medal swim in the men’s 100-metre freestyle para event on the second day of competition marks his second and Team New Brunswick’s second medal of the 2022 Canada Summer Games. Canney earned a silver medal Sunday in the men’s 200-metre / 400-metre freestyle para event.

Team New Brunswick’s women’s rugby sevens squad made its inaugural debut at the 2022 Canada Summer Games tonight in Niagara.

The rugby sevens lost its opening match 22-19 to Saskatchewan on the last run of the game. Team New Brunswick lost 15-0 to Ontario in a late Monday evening match. The women’s team plays twice Tuesday against Alberta and Nova Scotia respectively.

The second day of competition saw the men’s soccer advanced straight to the semifinals courtesy of a 1-0 victory over Prince Edward Island this afternoon. The perfect 2-0 soccer squad defeated Manitoba 3-2 Sunday night.

The 1-1 women’s box lacrosse returns to action Tuesday with a pair of games against Saskatchewan and Manitoba.

In baseball, Team New Brunswick defeated 9-7 Manitoba this afternoon. Today’s game against Alberta was delayed due to rain.

Women’s softball lost 5-1 against Alberta today. They return to the field Tuesday to play Quebec.

The tennis squad lost 5-1 against Nova Scotia after a pair of rain delays today. The team returns to the court Tuesday afternoon against Manitoba. Wrestling hits the mats Tuesday.
