TRANSPORT AND RESOURCES COMMITTEE

REPORT NO. 16 ON THE

LAND AND OTHER LEGISLATION AMENDMENT BILL 2022

QUEENSLAND GOVERNMENT RESPONSE

INTRODUCTION On 17 March 2022, the Land and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2022 (the Bill) was introduced to Parliament. The Bill was referred to the Transport and Resources Committee (the Committee), with the Committee tabling report no. 16 in relation to the Bill on 6 May 2022. The Queensland Government’s response to the recommendations made by the Committee is provided below. RESPONSE TO RECOMMENDATIONS Recommendation 1 The committee recommends that the Land and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2022 be passed. Government Response The Government notes the recommendation. Recommendation 2 The committee recommends the Minister revisit the proposed amendment to certify the regulation vegetation status rather than this being included in the Vegetation Management Regulation. Government Response The Government acknowledges the recommendation. Amendment of the relevant provision during consideration in detail is proposed to ensure ongoing parliamentary scrutiny of the certified database that identifies regulated regional ecosystems and their conservation status for use under the vegetation management framework. This amendment will see this provision require the certified database be tabled in the Legislative Assembly before the database is given effect. Recommendation 3 The committee recommends the Minister table a corrected version of the explanatory notes as a matter of priority and ensure that the electronic version of the document is the same as the tabled document.
