NIAGARA (GNB) – New Brunswick para swimmers Jesse Canney and Ella Tucker each swam to bronze medals Wednesday at the 2022 Canada Summer Games in Niagara.

Tucker, of Sackville, and Canney, of Durham Bridge, earned medals in their respective 100-metre breaststroke para events, lifting Team New Brunswick’s medal count to six at the Games.

All six medals have come from competition in the pool: three bronze and two silver by Canney, along with Tucker’s bronze. Canney returns to the pool for two more events Thursday.

New Brunswick’s mountain bike team competition saw both the men and women place fifth in their respective events.

The men’s soccer team plays an important game Thursday night against Ontario. The winner advances to Friday’s gold medal game while the other team plays for bronze on Friday.

Also on Thursday, the women’s basketball team tips off against Quebec and the men’s squad hits the court against Nova Scotia in quarterfinal matches.

Triathlon returns to competition with the super sprint events for both men and women in Welland, while the wrestlers hit the mats for individual bouts on Thursday.

Women’s rugby sevens, softball, box lacrosse and tennis competitions also take place Thursday.
