Who is the focus of this consultation
We invite all Canadians involved in estimating and reporting of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions for facilities, as well as organizations and institutions who may be monitoring these emissions (e.g. governments of other jurisdictions, non -govermental groups) to take part in this consultation.
Key considerations
The Government of Canada is pursuing changes to the GHGRP to maximize the utility, consistency and transparency of facility GHG data being collected and published. These changes will apply starting with the reporting of 2022 data.
The proposed changes include:
- Publication and use of facility GHG emissions by source category
- Removal of option for facilities to upload provincial reports
- Update of global warming potential values used under the program
- Specific changes to existing technical requirements
Our intent is to implement final changes through the publication of a single notice that will cover reporting requirements for the 2022 and 2023 calendar years: Notice with respect to reporting of greenhouse gases for 2022 and 2023.

Information sessions explaining the proposed changes to the GHGRP will be held on the dates and times listed below. You may click on the appropriate link to join a session at the scheduled time.
