Industrial Relations and
Other Legislation
Amendment Bill 2022:
Response to a question

Response to a question on notice regarding the Food Delivery Platform
National Safety Principles
The Australian Industry Group (Ai Group) provides the following response to a question that
we took on notice regarding the Food Delivery Platform National Safety Principles during the
inquiry into the Industrial Relations and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2022.
Ai Group was asked to identify, in effect, how we think the Food Delivery Platform National
Safety Principles (Principles) ensure minimum pay and minimum conditions for drivers and riders
undertaking work via relevant on demand platforms.
The Principles are directed at addressing the safety of drivers and riders who use food delivery
platforms to access work.
As indicated in the introduction to the Principles, they reflect a commitment by the signatories to
the Principles to continuously improve the safety of the industry, so far as is reasonably
practicable, by ensuring they have their own processes in place that meet the standards set out
in these principles in respect of: training and information; delivery equipment and personal
protective equipment (PPE); support, standards and policies; consultation; and incident reporting
and investigation.
The Principles are not targeted at directly regulating the minimum level of remuneration of
drivers and riders undertaking work accessed via food delivery platforms.
