Summary of Proposal:
The College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario (CDHO), College of Optometrists of Ontario (COO) and the College of Chiropodists of Ontario (COCOO) are proposing regulations made under the Dental Hygiene Act, 1991, the Optometry Act, 1991, and the Chiropody Act, 1991 respectively to create a spousal exception to the sexual abuse provisions of the Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991 (RHPA). The proposals if approved, would allow the Colleges to permit their members to treat their spouses.
Analysis of Regulatory Impact:
The proposed regulations are not anticipated to impose any increased administrative costs to members and/or businesses as they seek to permit a previously imposed barrier to treating a spouse. The proposed regulations will not require stakeholders to incur costs for training or education.
