Day of Persons with Disabilities: Minister Nixon
2022-12-03

“Over the years, I have been honoured to know many Albertans from the disability community who have unique talents, strengths and abilities that contribute to making Alberta an incredible place to call home.

“That is why I am so proud to recognize International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

“Alberta is a province of diversity where everyone deserves an opportunity and where we work to break down any barriers that they may face. Our society depends on contributions from every Albertan, including those with disabilities.

“As Alberta’s minister of Seniors, Community and Social Services, I spend countless hours working with people who advocate for those with disabilities. This includes families, organizations, community leaders and many others who act as a voice for vulnerable Albertans.

“Our actions in positions of leadership matter and have a real impact on the lives of others. That is why our government has been taking steps to help Albertans with disabilities by increasing AISH and expanding the Office of the Advocate for Persons with Disabilities to southern Alberta.

“This International Day of Persons with Disabilities is an opportunity to celebrate the accomplishments of those with disabilities. I encourage all Albertans to join me in recognizing this important day to help create a more inclusive Alberta.”
