Dealer Plate on a Light Duty Commercial vehicle for Private Use that is "loaded with goods"

Summary of Proposal:
Currently in Ontario, Dealer plates are permitted to be used only by motor vehicle dealers on motor vehicles owned as part of the dealer's inventory of vehicles for sale.
Dealer plates cannot be used on commercial motor vehicles for private use carrying goods.
MTO is proposing to amend Regulation 628: Vehicle Permits to allow the use of a Dealer plate on a light duty commercial vehicle for private use that is "loaded with goods" (i.e. pickup trucks displaying a Dealer plate that is able to carry goods of a personal nature).
The proposal aligns with use of dealer plates on passenger vehicles by outlining parameters such as restrictions on load requirements, capping the Manufacturer's Gross Vehicle Weight Rating at 3400 kg, prohibiting the towing of any other vehicle and restricting the type of load that may be carried to goods of a personal nature.
This approach is consistent with Open for Business principles, Ontario's Regulatory Modernization Principles and reducing the regulatory burden while maintaining road safety.
The intended outcome of this proposal is to reduce costs for motor vehicle dealers by permitting staff to use dealer plates on pickup trucks that are part of inventory for private use.
