“This weekend, Muslims in Alberta will join with their partners in faith around the world to celebrate the birth of Prophet Muhammad on 12 Rabi Al-Awal, AD 570.
“Alberta has been enriched and built by people from many countries and of many faiths seeking opportunity, freedom and tolerance. It has made us a welcoming, generous and better society.
“It was this spirit that led Albertans of many denominations to contribute to Edmonton’s Muslim community in 1938 to construct the Al Rashid Mosque – Canada’s first such place of worship and only the third in North America.
“On this festive weekend, I wish Alberta’s 100,000-strong Muslim community joy, peace, and the continued best wishes of fellow Albertans of all faiths.”
