Deliberations

R. Glumac (Chair): All right. Let's call a meeting to order.

I'm Rick Glumac, MLA for Port Moody–Coquitlam and Chair of the Select Standing Committee on Agriculture, Fish and Food.

We are in final deliberations on our draft report, so to continue that work, do I have a motion to go in camera.

From Roly, seconded by Kelli.

Motion approved.

The committee continued in camera from 12:03 p.m. to 1:58 p.m.

Committee Report to the House

REPORT ON CARBON SEQUESTRATION
AND RELATED TECHNOLOGY

R. Glumac (Chair): We are now back in the public meeting for the committee.

Thank you, committee members, for the great work on this committee and the report and the recommendations. We're very excited with the work that we've done, and I'm looking forward to presenting this to the Legislature very soon.

With that, do we have a recommendation?

S. Chant: I move that the Select Standing Committee on Agriculture, Fish and Food approve and adopt the report titled Carbon Sequestration and Related Technology in British Columbia's Agricultural Sector as amended today and, further, that the committee authorize the Chair and Deputy Chair to work with the committee staff to finalize further editorial changes to complete the supporting text.

R. Glumac (Chair): Excellent. That is moved.

Any discussion on that? No discussion.

Motion approved.

R. Glumac (Chair): We have a second recommendation.

R. Russell: I move that the Chair of the Select Standing Committee on Agriculture, Fish and Food present the report titled Carbon Sequestration and Related Technology in British Columbia's Agricultural Sector to the Legislative Assembly at the earliest available opportunity.

[2:00 p.m.]

R. Glumac (Chair): Excellent. Thank you, Roly.

Any discussion on that? All right.

Motion approved.

R. Glumac (Chair): I believe that concludes our work here. We've heard from a lot of great presenters and really appreciate the hard work of staff in pulling together all that we've learned. It's been an incredible learning experience for me, being someone who isn't connected to the agricultural sector in any way, but it is extremely enlightening. We really appreciate all the contributions that have been made to went into this report from everyone.

Does anyone else have any closing comments before we go ahead?

I. Paton (Deputy Chair): I'll just echo your comments.

For people on this screen, and some have got agricultural background…. I know, Rick, you don't have much of one, but you're an extremely fast learner and you caught onto a lot of things, and even I learned things.

For the staff that were able to take in all this bizarre information about manure and nitrogen and phosphorus and all these different things, well done.

I'm glad we've brought this thing to the end.

R. Glumac (Chair): Excellent. Thank you, Ian. I really appreciate your work as the vice-Chair as well.

With that, I'll ask for a motion to adjourn.

Motion approved.

The committee adjourned at 2:02 p.m.
