SUDBURY — The Ontario government, along with Extendicare Countryside is celebrating the opening of a newly built long-term care home that brings 256 modern beds to Sudbury. This is part of the government’s commitment to build 58,000 new and upgraded long-term care beds across the province.

“I would like to congratulate Extendicare Countryside and their team as we celebrate the opening of a new, modernized long-term care home for Sudbury,” said Stan Cho, Minister of Long-Term Care. “This redeveloped home is a significant milestone for Sudbury and means 256 seniors will now have a new, modern and comfortable place to call home.”

The modernized home began welcoming residents earlier this year and provides residents an improved quality of life, with accommodations built to current design standards and air conditioning throughout the home.

The design is centred around resident home areas, which create a more intimate and familiar living space that includes dining and activity areas, lounges and bedrooms. Extendicare Countryside’s eight resident home areas consist of 20 private rooms and six standard rooms, for a total of 32 residents each. Resident care offerings include a designated Memory Care Unit, delivering high-quality, person-centered care for residents with dementia by creating spaces that provide comfort and warmth.

The government is fixing long-term care to ensure Ontario’s seniors get the quality of care and quality of life they need and deserve. The plan is built on four pillars: staffing and care; quality and enforcement; building modern, safe and comfortable homes; and connecting seniors with faster, more convenient access to the services they need.
