None
Instrument Type:
Act
Bill or Act:
Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991; various health profession-Acts
Summary of Proposal:
The Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991, (RHPA) is the governing framework for the regulation of health professions in Ontario. The RHPA sets out a number of roles and responsibilities for the Minister and other organizations. The Health Professions Regulatory Advisory Council (HPRAC) is one of those organizations.
Section 7 of the RHPA sets out HPRAC's composition, qualifications, roles and terms of members, along with its mandate.
It has been some time since HPRAC has been relied upon to provide advice to the Minister and there are currently no appointments made to this advisory body. While independent third-party advice to the Minister may be necessary in certain circumstances, it is proposed that HPRAC be dissolved and that short-term bodies be appointed on an as-needed basis to provide any advice to the Minister that is needed as it pertains to the regulation of health professions.

Analysis of Regulatory Impact:
The proposed legislative amendments will not to impose any increased administrative costs to the government. Cost savings will be realized as there will neither be the need for public appointments to the Council nor the costs associated with the Council undertaking referrals for the Minister.
