Provincial Government Supporting Tourism Businesses with Marketing and Development Initiatives

The Honourable Andrew Parsons, Minister of Industry, Energy and Technology, today announced more than $207,000 to assist with enhanced marketing and development opportunities for tourism-related business activity throughout the province.

  • Burnt Berry Resort – A business loan of $56,800 to assist with its RV Park and other facility upgrades to enhance services and experiences for visitors during the winter season. This will allow the company to develop additional winter experiences. The company is contributing $14,200 towards this project.
  • The Dark Tickle Company – $36,229 from the Business Development Support (BDS) program to assist with enhancing the promotion of the company’s new artisan ice cream. Located in St. Lunaire-Griquet, The Dark Tickle Company manufactures jams, sauces, tea, coffee, vinegars, drinks, and chocolates from unique wild berries. The company is contributing $12,076 towards the initiative.
  • Indian Falls Chalet – $30,000 from the BDS program to help revitalize marketing activities and support for the company to increase the marketing of its product located in Springdale. The company is contributing $10,000 for this project.
  • Rocky Brook Cabins – $25,620 from the BDS program to further grow and develop marketing efforts. This funding will allow the company to undertake several marketing initiatives to help promote its operations. Rocky Brook Cabins is a second-generation family business, owned by Roseann Brake. The company is providing $22,910 towards this initiative.
  • Riverfront Chalets – $22,500 from the BDS program to assist with marketing initiatives such as website maintenance, social media development, online booking and upgrades for on-site signage. Riverfront Chalets is located just west of Grand Falls-Windsor, and is open year round. The company is contributing $7,500 towards this project.
  • Bonavista Social Club – $11,250 from the BDS program to complete promotional activities to enhance the company’s online marketing presence. Located in Upper Amherst Cove, the Bonavista Social Club is owned by red seal chef Katie Hayes. The company is contributing $3,750 to this project.
  • Wind At Your Back Guided Adventures – $10,354 from the BDS program to assist with professional marketing services, such as website development, social media and training. Based in Heart’s Delight-Islington, this company markets its outdoor adventure tourism product in the Baccalieu Trail region. The company is providing $3,451 for this initiative.
  • Port aux Basques Marine Excursions – $9,000 from the BDS program to allow for the expansion of business through market development activities. This adventure tourism business will further promote and develop its offerings, such as recreational fishing, interpretative tours, lighthouse picnics and chartered boat tours. The company is contributing $3,000 towards the project.
  • Curzon Chalets – $5,475 from the BDS program to assist with marketing initiatives. Based in Woody Point, this funding will assist owner Lexie Specker to create a professional web presence and improve on-line capabilities. The company is providing $1,825 for this project.

Support for these projects demonstrates a focus on small businesses in Newfoundland and Labrador and contributes to the Provincial Government’s commitment to strengthen the province’s economic foundation.
