Autism treatment
para519
I’d like to start off by thanking the advisory panel for all of their hard work. Our government is adopting the key pillars of the Ontario Autism Program as a strong foundation for the new, needs-based Ontario Autism Program. In line with their recommendations, we established an implementation working group, which has been providing input on how we implement the key elements of the new program. The minister and the working group have been working hard as we continue to make progress on the implementation to date. I’d like to remind the member of the work that has been done so far. We’ve launched the foundational family services, a key element of the panel’s report, including family and peer mentoring, caregiver workshops and coaching, so families can support their child’s ongoing learning and development. We launched a variety of early years supports, focused on younger children on the wait-list, to help build skills in social communication, engagement, and speech and language and emotional regulation.
